Here they are, the runes are now reforged for a month, and after long games we better understand the new gameplay. When they arrived, many players didn’t know how to play, some didn’t like them, some loved, but it is with experience that we learn. In this article, I will lend my pen to a few friends, who will give their thoughts, and then a little manual for these runes.

Step by step, Runes Reforged will become easy and evident.

The union of Runes and Masteries

On the official website, we see that runes and masteries are now one thing, saying that they are free. So cool ! Oh wait.. pages are not.. Yes, we all have the five premade pages with the five different branches, and the number of pages that we had before the patch. Some will have many, while some don’t.. You can for sure use the premade ones, while you can create new ones, made by yourself or simply copied on pro-players’ pages.

Very simply, you have in total 5 branches : Precision, Domination, Sorcery, Resolve, Inspiration.

On each page, you can choose two branches, a primary and a secondary.

Let’s take as an example, the page for Zoe, the new lovely (or not if you’re fed because of her xD) champion from Targon.

After choosing your primary branch, which is your fundamental rune, you pick a major one, then minor runes. Finally, you pick your second branch, with two other runes. So the page is divided in 5/3. Now that the page division is clearer, let’s explain rune by rune.

Of course, my tabs are a large summary, of what the runes can add to your champs and games. However, if you want more details, as my article is here to help you to understand what the whole new system is about, you can check Riot website here.

I add you each time the different choices for each rune, then the four lines explained very simply, to finally give you the summary of what the rune is about.

Precision, Become a Legend

'Improved attacks and sustained damage'

Here above, I put a screen cap of all the different choices. It is said that Precision improves attacks and makes your damages being sustained. Now line by line, I’ll explain what it is about.

In a word, Precision fundamental rune is for more Attack Speed, as the whole damages are now adaptative ones.

An example of champions with who you can use Precision : Darius, Xin Zhao, Tristana...

For which lanes ?
- AD CARRY (+ Inspiration or Sorcery)
- TOPLANE (+ Resolve)

Domination, Hunt and Eliminate Prey

'Burst damage and target access'

In a word, Domination fundamental rune is for more Ability Power and Attack Damage.

An example of champions with who you can use Domination : Rengar, Ahri, Zed...

For which lanes ?
- JUNGLE (+ Precision)
- MIDLANE (+ Sorcery)

Sorcery, Unleash Destruction

'Empowered abilities and resource manipulation'

In a word, Sorcery fundamental rune is for more AP and AD as well.

An example of champions with who you can use Sorcery : Orianna, Ryze, Lulu...

For which lanes ?

- MIDLANE (+ Inspiration)

- SUPPORT (+ Inspiration)

Resolve, Live Forever

'Durability and Crowd Control'

In a word, Resolve fundamental rune is for more Health Point.

An example of champions with who you can use Resolve : Gragas, Sejuani, Galio...

For which lanes ?

- JUNGLE (+Inspiration)

- TOPLANE (+ Sorcery)

- SUPPORT (+ Sorcery)

Inspiration, Outwit Mere Mortals

'Creative tools and rule bending'

However, the effects of the Inspiration fundamental rune depends on the first branch you choose. In a word, Inspiration increase their effects.

With Sorcery for example, you have basically +25AP or +15AD, and with Inspiration you'll have +30AP or +18AD. It's the same with the other branches.

An example of champions with who you can use Inspiration as the second branch : Karma, Zyra, Amumu ...

I hope this manual helped you tu understand Runes Reforged, and that you enjoy the new system. I know that some players abandoned the game, but I'm sure that if Riot sees that it creates a problem, remember that every two weeks, a new patch comes out. And personally, it took time to get used to it, but after a little adaptation, it's easier to understand and play.
